WEDDINGS AND RENEWAL OF VOWS
A Fijian wedding ceremony is truly a beautiful and moving
experience.
The day before the wedding we take you to the District Court
officer in Taveuni to arrange for your wedding license. In
order to obtain the license you will need your passport, birth
certificates, and if divorced, the final divorce papers. A
Fijian wedding is recognized internationally.
Our weddings are usually held on a beautifully decorated
part of our beachfront gardens in the late afternoon facing
the west and the sunset. Before your wedding you will be dressed
in traditional Fijian Tapa cloth attire topped with floral
salusalu (lei).
The service is held with the local Minister or Priest presiding
and with our staff joining in with the singing of traditional
Fijian wedding songs. The service is conducted in English.
The registrar is then signed and witnessed and you will be
toasted, six bottles of champagne being included for this.
We then take a short break so you can change into comfortable
clothing and relax while we prepare for the evening's entertainment.
The evening programme starts with Meke which is a Fijian
group presenting traditional songs and dance. All guests are
then invited to join in dancing to the music of our House
Band, who then continue to play throughout the evening.
The sound of Lali Drums then summons all to the Fijian buffet
dinner. A heart shaped wedding cake is then presented to you.
Then the evening continues as evenings inevitably do!
During the day guests can watch the preparations for the
Lovo, which is the traditional method of cooking food underground
and is the basis of the buffet dinner. This is similar to
the "Luau" or "Hangi" and includes pork, fish, chicken, taro,
and many other Fijian specialties.
